Throttling is sending your data out during a particular time frame, a certain day and to a certain number of recipients per hour. It is important to throttle your data when sending your campaigns to build a positive and reputable sending IP, and to build on positive sending behaviours.
Not throttling your data and continuously sending batch emails out to all of your data can impact your IP negatively and can put you at risk of being blocked by certain providers such as Microsoft; who actively look at these sending patterns and behaviours to differentiate from spam senders.
How do I throttle my email campaigns?
Firstly, you want to start by creating your campaign by clicking on the paper plane icon at the top of your dashboard like below.
Create your campaign in the normal way, when you reach Campaign Schedule, this is where your throttle needs to be added in. It's really important not to leave the throttle set as the standard timings as show below.
Sending your campaigns based on the default here will still be classed as 'blast' sending emails and will negatively affect your IP address.
To set your throttle you must select ON as shown below, you will then be able to select how many emails to send per hour, on what days, and select the times these emails can be sent. It is important to build on your sending patterns and have consistency with your sends.
